This week is the eagerly-awaited arrival of pianist Jeremy Denk as our newest Artistic Partner. He has performed with us a number of times in recent years, and we look forward to more frequent collaboration.
In addition to his prodigious skills as a pianist, Jeremy is well known for his intellect, imagination and wide-ranging curiosity. Among many other accomplishments, he’s recipient of a 2013 MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship, was named Musical America’s 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year, and is the 2014 winner of the Avery Fisher Prize. As Principal Second Violinist and Senior Director of Artistic Planning Kyu-Young Kim noted last spring:
The SPCO absolutely loves making music with Jeremy. He is a fabulous pianist with a probing intellect and the ability to express his ideas with utter conviction and clarity, both in rehearsal and in performance. Jeremy can make you hear a work that you’ve played and heard a million times in a completely new way, and not through gimmicks or artifice, but by making a deep personal connection with every note and gesture in the score. We are thrilled to welcome him to our stellar roster of Artistic Partners.
If you’re one of our many fans beyond Minnesota, or can’t get tickets before they sell out, you can hear Saturday night’s concert through Classical MPR’s live broadcast and Internet stream. Tune in at ClassicalMPR.org starting at 8 p.m. CDT (9 p.m. EDT).
