A statement regarding the killing of Daunte Wright
Today we mourn the unnecessary, untimely and unjust killing of Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center – a tragedy that inflicts further pain upon our community as the Twin Cities relives the trauma of George Floyd’s murder through the trial of Derek Chauvin. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Daunte Wright and to Black people in our community and beyond who suffer under the weight of systemic racism. We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues and community members and we join the call for an end to racial injustice.
The mission of the SPCO is to enrich the lives of people in our community through music, but we acknowledge that we have not done enough to include people of color in that mission. We are committed to actively including more people of color on our stage, in our organization and in our audience as part of our ongoing efforts to become a truly equitable and inclusive organization.
