Roberto Abbado succeeds Lorin Maazel in Valencia, Spain

Roberto Abbado, who has been one of our Artistic Partners since 2005, was recently appointed co-Music Director of the Palau de les Arts (Palace of the Arts) in Valencia, Spain. Along with fellow co-director Fabio Biondi, he succeeds Lorin Maazel in that role. Here’s an official announcement from Abbado’s manager, IMG Artists:

Valencia’s The Palau de les Arts today made a triple announcement about the leadership and direction of the renowned house.  Conductor Roberto Abbado has been named co-Music Director, a title shared with Fabio Biondi, and Ramón Tebar is Principal Guest Conductor.

Mr Abbado said, “I am very happy to be in this house.  When I have performed here, I was impressed by the large orchestra, the great choir and the high level of production and staff.  This is one of the best theatres in the world.”

Valencia native Mr Tebar said, “This means a lot to me, for the prestige of the Palau de les Arts and because it is my homeland.  I hope this is the beginning of a very fruitful stage.”
