TITLE:                         Audience Development Intern

REPORTS TO:             Audience Development Manager

STATUS:                     Part-Time, Unpaid Internship – may be eligible for college credit

DATES/HOURS:          Flexible – 10-20 hours per week

The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra is seeking an Audience Development Intern for the fall semester. The SPCO has recently launched several initiatives to expand the diversity of our audience and to serve more young people, with a goal of serving an audience that reflects the diversity of our community. This position is responsible for assisting the Audience Development Manager in a number of young audience and audience diversity efforts, and will provide additional support to the marketing department as needed.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and implementing marketing strategies directed toward engaging young and diverse audiences
  • Serve as a liaison between the SPCO and various Twin Cities colleges and universities, helping to engage diverse student populations around SPCO performances
  • Distribute promotional materials on Twin Cities college campuses and to Twin Cities businesses
  • Make connections with organizations and publications that serve young families and students to promote free tickets for students and children
  • Assist Audience Development Manager in organizing and carrying out pre- and post-concert receptions and musician meet & greets for audience groups
  • Along with Audience Development Manager, represent the SPCO at community events
  • Assist in developing engaging social media content related to young audience and audience diversity initiatives
  • Other duties as apparent or assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Participating in college program
  • Access to transportation and ability to travel to various neighborhoods in Minneapolis and Saint Paul to distribute promotional materials

 

Desired Qualifications

  • College level coursework in marketing and/or communications
  • Conversational and written proficiency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali or Karen
  • Interest in arts administration and/or marketing

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Experience with various social media platforms
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
