The culmination of our three-week Mendelssohn celebration, this program features the irresistible Italian Symphony – a souvenir of the young composer’s travels to Italy as part of the three-year European tour that also inspired his Hebrides Overture and Scottish Symphony.

Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony

May 3 – 6

The second of three programs celebrating the works of Felix Mendelssohn, this program opens with the composer’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage overture, based on two poems by German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and closes with his Scottish Symphony. Between Mendelssohn’s works, the SPCO will present the world premiere of Mystery Play by Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli.
